The Chief Minister of North, C.V.Wigneswaran said yesterday that, if the Colombo Government will grant powers to us we could act in conjunction with the Government, and undertake activities with understanding.

The Certificate awarding ceremony for students who have completed successfully the Tourism Development & Hosting Training Course in 2017 and 2018 was held yesterday in the Kailasapathy Hall of the University of Jaffna under the aegis of Ministry of tourism and Sri Lanka Institute of Hotel Management Studies, presided by the Director General of the Sri Lanka Institute of Hotel Management Studies, R.H.Budhikka Hemabala

The Minister for Christian Affairs and Tourism Development, John  Amarathunge and the Chief Minister , NPC, C.V.Wigneswaran participated as the Chief Guests.

Speaking there the CM said, “ Development of Tourism is a long term plan and not only the needs of the Province and those of the people should be fulfilled, but also, it should be ensured that the coming of the tourist will not be detrimental to our culture and feelings.

The Central Government should work in conjunction with the Provincial Government. If not, a situation of Centre dominating over Provincial Government will occur.70 years have passed without us looking after our own needs. Our Rights and powers have been usurped from us. Our resources have been exploited. It is observable that a policy of ‘Cannibalism’ practiced.

Long beaches, ancient religious places, historically famous places, birds’ sanctuary and the jungles available here are tourist attractions. We are using the meagre amounts released to us to develop these. We are asking for powers to develop them. If powers are granted to us we could work well in conjunction with the government with understanding.” , he said.
