Rainy weather in Kilinochchi – 34 Hectare Paddy cultivation destroyed, says the Deputy Director
The Deputy Provincial Director of Agriculture B. Atputhachchandran said that 34 Hectare Paddy cultivation were destroyed due to the Rainy weather that prevailed in the Kilinochchi District for the past few days.
Agricultural cultivation in several areas of the country has been damaged by the Rainy weather prevailing in the country.
The Deputy Director was contacted in the aftermath of Rainy weather prevailing in his areas for the last few days. Two months have passed after Yala Cultivation (Siru pokam) had been commenced. 12, 255 hectares under large and medium Tanks, 544 Hectares under small Tanks and 11,696 hectare under Manavari ( depending on rain) a total 26,495 Hectares were brought under cultivation for this Yala Season.
Our Department had reported that due to the heavy rains, 34 hectares had been destroyed fully and 70% of 72 Hectares had been destroyed partly. Crops are also affected by diseases due to the rainy weather. These diseases were identified and due to prevention activities the situation had been brought under control he said.2
