Redeem our lands from under the control of the Navy: request people of Pallimunai

The residents of the 25-house Housing scheme of Pallimunai has expressed dissatisfaction over the Navy refusing to vacate the lands on which the scheme is located. Although several activities were undertaken to resettle in the area, the Navy is not making any move to vacate the lands they said.

The Navy had put up camps in the lands and houses of the 25-house scheme located in Pallimunai beach. When the army occupied the housing scheme on 30th December 1990, its residents were displaced. Police joined them in 1995. After the Army went out in 1995, Navy came in.

In this context, the people of the scheme undertook several activities to get the forces out of their lands without any success. We were displaced by the war and are unable to settle back into our own lands, the people said.

In this period where the Good Governance is releasing lands of people, it should also take action to release our lands along Pallimunai Beach, they are requesting.
