Remove Army and give us Police power, we will eliminate crime in the North: says the CM

The Northern CM requested the Government to remove the Army from the North and give Police powers, in the presence of Central Ministers yesterday.

President’s People Service – 08 was inaugurated in Jaffna yesterday at the Weerasingam Hall.

Speaking there the CM further said that,  around 10 years have passed after the end of the war , the gearing up of Military surveillance on us shows the mistrust. Although the Government had promised de-militarize the North gradually, but that is not happening. On the contrary  crimes have increased. No powers have been given to us to prevent them. Police is not within our jurisdiction. It is not a big issue to bring crime culture in the North under control if the Army is removed police power is granted to us, he said.

We are living on our traditional lands. All natural resources belong to our people. You should not think that our people will continue to allow robbing away the natural Resources or keeping them under control. The development for us should be discussed with us. Come forward to undertake Development of the North through the Northern Provincial Council, he further said.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Thilak Marapone, Minister of Local Government, Vajira Abeywardene, State Minister for Children’s Affairs, Wijekala Maheswaran, MPs, Mawai Senathyrasa and Sumanthiran participated in this event.
