The Northern Provincial Council yesterday observed 2 minutes silence for the dead student followed by a  resolution of condolence to the family of victim. Then the Council condemned the incident and  the  CM informed the house that he had sent a letter to the president to take action to prevent the repetition of the incident.

NPC Member Ripkan Badi-ud-deen  requested that action should be taken to release the people who acted on a sentimental urge and arrested.

Jaffna District Lawyers are staging a ‘strike’ today protesting against the attack on the Court Complex on Wednesday.

The DIG Northern Range said in a media conference that he gave a false promise to produce Swizz Kumar and the law- lecturer in court to create peace in the area and he also  stated that a special investigation team is being brought to Jaffna to investigate the incident.

Vavuniya responded to a call of Harthal in protest against  Vidya’s Murder, by the Traders Association with full closure of shops and stoppage of transports.Traders Association president arrested and released on bail for announcement of Harthal over loud speakers without prior police permission.
