Sampanthan on release of political prisoners

Tamil National Alliance Leader R.Sampanthan has reiterated that an undertaking has been given by the government to release 30 political prisoners by November 9 and another 30 before November 20.

He was responding to a query by the media. He added that during the discussion it was stated that in regard to release of another batch of 48 prisoners who are serving sentence, a Cabinet Sub-Committee will be appointed and it would go into the issue and submit a report.

He further stated that they have urged President Sirisena to consider granting them amnesty. He has assured to give thought to the matter.
