Sampanthan to be offered the Post of Leader of the Opposition?

It is being highly speculated in the political circles that the Leader of the TNA, Era Sampanthan may get the post of the Leader of the Opposition, in the new Parliament.

Ranil Wickremasinghe who is expected to be sworn in as the Prime Minister had said that a National Government will be formed , while addressing the Nation. At the same time, News sources say the new SLFP MPs will join  the new government and that Nimal Siripala de Silva will be given the post of Deputy Prime Minister post.

In this context , a situation has arisen where the TNA, which has the next highest number of MPs, had to be given Leader of the Op[position post.

It is notable that, while speaking about the election victory, Mawai Senathyrajah had said that, they are not going to accept Ministerial Portfolios in the new Government.

The same political sources also say that, by virtue of having more number of MPs outside Government, TNA had to be given the post of Leader of the opposition.

It is also notable that, Appapillai Amirthalingam of the Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF), held the position of  Leader of the Opposition in 1977.
