Students killing case: University community exit legal procedures – cites Political interference as reason
The university community had undertaken action continuously, regarding the killing of the two undergrads on 20th last month. Particularly, they had earlier expressed their intention to pursue actions regarding conduct of the case on the killings and needed monitoring, avoiding any political intervention.
The case was taken up for hearing yesterday, and the attorneys who were scheduled to attend the case on behalf of the University Community or anybody from the University Community were not present during the hearing.
Several Attorneys at law who had passed out from the University were in readiness to appear in the case. But at the final moments few Politicians had maneuvered unilaterally, and had said that they will make the appearance independently on behalf of the affected. This had made the attorneys organized by University to walk out from the case.
Some university sources said that, the death of two of our students is a great loss to us. We are fighting from the start demanding a just solution to the death of our students. We commenced our activities declaring openly that there should not be any political interference in this matter. All parties were informed of our intention. But at the final moment actions had been taken in a planned manner to prevent University Community from attending the case they have planned.
Although, we will not interfere in the case anymore, the inquiries by the court should be undertaken in a just way.
However we will not give up our struggle until a just solution is delivered for the killings, they said.
It is notable that after the case, Attorneys Kanesarajah and NPC Member K.Sayanthan said to the media that they have appeared on behalf of the affected people under the Direction of Attorney at Law and MP, M.A.Sumanthiran .
