Sumanthiran on justifiability in TNA demanding Chief Minister’s post

Tamil National Alliance Parliamentarian M. Sumanthiran has stated that their party is entitled to claim the post of Chief Minister in view of the fact that it secured more votes in two districts of the Eastern Province and therefore is in the forefront. TNA insists on it only on the basis of votes secured at the last election held two years ago.

He also rejected the allegation made by the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress that TNA is adamant as baseless. He explained that at the polls held in 2012, TNA secured only 6100 votes less than the UPFA which won majority votes. TNA was second.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Muslim Congress got 60,000 votes less than the TNA. Furthermore, TNA was leading in Trincomalee and Batticalos districts. Even though we offered support to the SLMC to secure the post of Chief Minister, they joined hands with the UPFA and formed a provincial government despite the fact they carried out a campaign against the UPFA during the polls and obtained a mandate on that basis from the people.

He went on that what is more important is that they did not offer even a single portfolio in the provincial administration where Tamils are a majority and respecting the aspirations of the Tamil people.
