Tamil elected as Deputy Mayor in Kalmunai Municipal council – Muslims hold protest Rally

A protest Rally has been held protesting the election of TNA Member Kathamuththu Kanesh as the first ever Tamil Deputy Mayor in the History of the Kalmunai Municipality.

The protest was held by supporters of All Ceylon People’s Congress. People, who congregated in front of the Natpiddymunai Mosque, after the Jumma worship and had held the Protest rally.

They engaged in this protest holding placard and shouting slogans.

For the first time in the history of Kalmunai MC, A Tamil has been elected as the Deputy Mayor. In a context where, a member of the Muslim Congress contesting for the post of Mayor, TNA voted with SLMC, to elect him the Mayor. Because of this the SLMC had supported the TNA member who contested for the post of Deputy Mayor.

Hence, supporters of All Ceylon People’s Congress held the Protest rally.

Several people expressed concern that, in a context where, Tamil and Muslim people are trying to live with understanding and reconciliation such a protest had occurred.
