If a Temple could be built in Colombo, what is the problem in building a Vihare in Kokkilai, asks Governor
If Tamil people could build a Temple in Colombo, what is the problem in a Vihare being built at Kokkulai asked the Norther Governor, Reginold Cooray. However, he said that if the Vihare is built in a private land in an area where no Buddhists are present, it will be an offence.
He had said this while sharing his opinions with the Media men, yesterday at Mulaitheevu. The former Karaithuraipattu Divisional Secretary had given permission to build the vihare. In this country anybody can build a temple, can a build mosque. There is no problem in building a vihre for ordinary Tamil people. Only the politicians are making issues, he said.
Following the end war people were resettled in 2010, but the Bikku blocked people being settled in the land saying it was reserved for Vihare. The case filed by the son of the owner was dismissed for title change .
However the construction work is being carried out at the controversial vihare, day and night.
