Tension created by Search – Arrest operations all over Jaffna District – over 20 youths arrested

Tension was created in several places in the Jaffna District after the Police Task Force and police rounded up and searched the areas yesterday.

In a context where attacks on police in the Jaffna District and increase in violence, searches and arrests are being made day and night for the last four days. More than 20 youths have been arrested in Thirunelvely, Kondavil, Jaffna, and Kopay areas, by the police.

Some of them were arrested on information and others on intelligence report. Some of them did not have any documents to identify themselves, it is understood.

The police said that they will be produced in court.

The village of Thunnalai was rounded up for 5 hours and in the ensuing search operation 3 were arrested and 11 Motor Cycles and 6 Canters which are used for sand smuggling were captured by the police.
