The Sri Lankan government has mobilised its forces against the non-violent mass attention struggle of the Tamil people against the repression of the Tamil and Muslim communities “ From Pottuvil to Polikandy”.
The rally which started in Pottuvil in Ampara district on Wednesday continues in front of the Alayadiwembu Divisional Secretariat through Adalaichenai at the time of writing of this news. The rally is being held against the state grab of Tamil land, planned Sinhala settlement, Land grabbing in the name of archaeological research, looting of the native habitats of the Tamil and Muslim communities and burning of the bodies of the Muslim people.
All the Tamil National Parties have rallied in one voice and a large number of people have joined the struggle. Muslim politicians and people have also joined the struggle.
Tension erupted when special security forces and police tried to stop the protest in Pottuvil town as protesters tried to remove the barriers. Meanwhile, tension also escalated following a police attempt to attack TNA MP Rasamanikkam Chanakyan. However, the struggle is being carried out despite the opposition of the security forces.
Earlier, police placed several barriers at Eatram in Pottuvil to block the protect march and threatened the protesters who were going to the march. They warned that the court permission was not granted to the protest march and that those who attend would be arrested. However, the rally continues despite police restrictions.
Meanwhile, journalists who covered the protest were also questioned by the police. Following the rally in Akkaraipattu, a protest was held in front of the Alayadiwembu Divisional Secretariat and the protest continued through Akkaraipattu to Adalaichenai.
