TPPs fast enters 6th day
The TPPs fast unto death which commenced on last Monday, entered its 6th day today. 15 Tamil Political Prisoners (TPPs) in Magazine prison and 2 at Anuradhapura were engaged in this fast unto death. However, TPPs at Anuradhapuraprison abandoned their fast following their Attorney at Law Anton Punithanayagam informing them that the SG department had said cases will be filed against them.
These two TPPs were kept in a separate cell during the fast but following the giving up of the fast they were transferred to the cell consisting death row prisoner, but subsequently the prison officials had said they will be transferred out of there.
Three TPPs in Magazine, namely Nadesan Tharmarasa,Markandu Namynathan, and Karuvalthamby Vethanayagam fainted during the fast and are admitted to Prison hospital. It is notable that although the fast had entered its 6th day neither the Prison Commissioner nor the Minister had said anything about it.
