Two candidates from Upcountry People Front to contest with UNP
The Upcountry People Front political departments head V. Radhakrishnan said in a media briefing meeting held at Hatton on 01.07.2015 that as per his party’s central committee decision, he is going to contest from Nuwara Eliya district and Arvind Kumar is going to contest from Pathulai jointly with United National Party in that party’s symbol “Elephant”.
In this media briefing conference, Upcountry People Front secretary general and Tamil Progressive Alliance secretary A. Lawrence, its deputy chairman Vijayachandran, Financial secretary Arvind kumar, Former Ambagamuva divisional council member of the Upcountry People Front Prasad and many other key persons participated.
The political affairs department head of Upcountry People Front V. Radhakrishnan further said during this media briefing conference that…Due to the efforts of the current President, lot of new houses are being constructed in the larger estate areas using 100 days work scheme. With respect to the upcoming parliamentary election, we will discuss with other members of TPA and UNP about the priority that needs to be given to us and the needs of Upcountry people. After that we will start functioning officially as a part of Tamil Progressive Alliance.
Moreover in the upcoming parliamentary election, as per the decision done by our party, there will be two people from Upcountry in North East and jointly with Tamil National Alliance we are going to contest in Jaffna and Vanni districts. Talks are continuing regarding that with TNA. We have taken this decision as per the request from Upcountry people for solving their needs.
In the past, though there were some differences of thought with the Chairman of Upcountry People Front, Santhi Chandrasekar, she agreed that she will provide her full commitment in this election and to work with party in future for strengthening it.
Using 100 days work scheme, assistant teachers have been appointed in Upcountry. Also there is a housing scheme that is being undertaken for the people affected due to natural disasters in the Upcountry by Estate Infrastructure organization. In future also, there would be many teacher appointments, and efforts will be taken to resolve the basic needs of Upcountry people. Using 100 days work scheme, there will also be 25 schools identified and they will be developed.
