UN Human Rights chief meets NPC CM: Relatives of missing persons hold demonstration
United Nations High commissioner for Human Rights, Prince Zeid Ra’ad Al-Hussein who is in the country on an official tour, has visited Jaffna this morning.
The High Commissioner met with Northern Provincial Council Chief Minister Justice Wigneswaran at 10 am.
Meanwhile, the families of disappeared people have staged a demonstration in in front of the Northern Provincial Council. The demonstrators carried placards with photos of the missing men and women.
The High Commissioner on his way to meet the NPC CM, got off from his car and met the demonstrators. He told them that he was going to meet the CM first and meet them later.
Prince Zeid Ra’ad Al-Hussein is also scheduled to visit an IDP camp in Jaffna and go on an observation tour to Nallur. Thereafter, the UN High Comissioner for Human Rights will make his way to Trincomalee, and meet with the Chief Minister and the Governor of the Eastern province.
The UN High comissioner for Human Rights, Prince Zeid Ra’ad Al-Hussein who is in the country on a four-day official visit, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mangala Samaraweera on Saturday. Prince Zeid Ra’ad Al-Hussein is scheduled to hold discussions with the President, Prime Minister and the opposition leader.
The United Nations office in Colombo notified that the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, would speak at a media conference on February 9.
