Unity and Unitary state system are different, says CM : C.V.Wigneswaran

Unity and Unitary State System are different from each other. The people should clearly understand that.

He was asked about his stance on the recommendations handed over to the Government by committee for finding out the opinion of the people regarding new constitution. They have given two different versions, the one in Sinhala saying the “solution within Unitary state system” and the ones in Tamil and English as “unity”.

Answering them he had said  as above. Elaborating further he said that we should clearly understand Unitary state is different and unity is different.Through Unitary-state system the powers will be finally vested with the Majority race. They will alter the laws to suit their need and as per the prevailing time. This was how the powers granted to PCs through the Indo –Sri Lanka agreement in 1987 and the subsequent 13 amendment to Tamil people were changed by R.Premadasa in 1992. He was able to do this due to the Unitary State system.

Unity is something else. That is where all will act in unity without a unitary state system. During this a Federal system would be implemented, he said.
