Unprecedented Hartal-Motherland in NE paralyzed

An unprecedented Hartal was held yesterday for the loved ones forcefully made disappear and demanding the release of lands of people occupied by Armed Forces.

This hartal has gone record as the first time the Northern and Eastern provinces had got together in a Hartal for a common cause, after the end of the war in 2009. Because of the routine life being paralyzed, main towns in the two Provinces remained ghostly deserted.

Struggles are currently undertaken in the districts of Jaffna, Mulaitheevu, Vavuniya, Kilinochi and Trincomalee for information of people made to disappear. Meanwhile people are engaging in struggles demanding the release of their lands in Maruchchukaddi, and Mullikulam in Mannar and Kepapulavu in Mulaitheevu. The government has failed to comfort the strugglers in any way , although the struggles has been going on for more than a month.

In this context the relatives of the persons made to disappear forcefully, organized and put out a call for a “Full Hartal” for yesterday. Several Organization and people including, Tamil Political Parties, Religious dignitaries, Public Organizations  and University Community had earlier pledged their support and participated in the yesterday’s Harthal wholeheartedly. The Shops were fully closed and Public and Private transport were off the streets.

In Amparai, Muthur, Batticaloa and Trincomalee districts in the East, Full Harthal was observed.

After very long years, the North and East had engaged in Harta

l for affected people and this had made several factions including International Community and The Sri Lankan Government to look back. This is a grand victory to the struggle of the people.
