Vadamaradchchi Shooting incident: Two Tamil Police officers remanded

Two Police officers have been arrested and remanded in the Shooting incident at Vadamaradchchi East.

Yogarasa Thines (24 years ) of Thunnalai was shot dead in this incident. The police have said that he was shot while illegally transporting sand in a canter.

The Point Petro Judge visited and inspected the scene and the dead body that was kept in Point pedro hospital. The arrested Police officers were produced in the court, their testimony recorded in closed chamber and were remanded for 14 days. It was announced that the police Officers remanded are to be taken to Anuradhapura prison. The body of the dead person was taken to Jaffna Teaching Hospital for Postmortem. The Point Pedro police had offered to bear the expense of taking the body to Jaffna. The court ordered the corpse be buried with due security arrangements.

The Human Rights Commission – Jaffna have also got interested in this incident and the Jaffna Coordinator T. Kanagaraj said, “ We have already inspected the spot and collected necessary information from the household of the dead person. We are also watching the activities of the police regarding the case. The information we collected will be sent to our H/O”

Some tension prevailed in Thunnalai area yesterday morning. People showed their opposition by burning tyres between Kalikai junction and Thunnalai. Because of this the traffic through Point Pedro- Kodikamam road was affected for some time.

Some people stoned a SLTB bus and an Army Armoured vehicle Thunnalai and the vehicles were damaged.

The body of the youth was handed over to the relatives after postmortem.
