Valalai fisheries harbor not renovated, unable to engage in fishing: Valalai villagers

The vallalai fisheries harbor which was damaged in the monsoon rains had not been renovated even after two months. We are economically affected by this, said the fishermen of Valalai village.

This area was released for resettlement in March, and although 297 families have registered for resettlement here only 64 families have settled in so far and  most of them are fishermen. Their main livelihood is fishing . Two channels which were built for taking boats in and out were damaged in the heavy rains and rough seas that prevailed during the rainy season.

Due to the lethargy of the officers, we are unable to engage in fishing and forced to seek alternate employment, said one of the fishermen of the village.

The villagers had requested the  Divisional Secretary, Kopay,  to take suitable action to repair the channels, so that they could engage in fishing.
