We are eligible to demand Tamil Eelam, but today we calling for power devolution within one country: says Sampanthan

We are people who ruled parts of this country. We have all the rights to demand Tamil Eelam on the basis of that. On the basis of that only we asked for Tamil Eelam once. But, today we are calling for power devolution within one country. Only the Tamil people are asking for power devolution. the majority people are not asking for Tamil Eelam. Neither the Muslim people ask for it. Nobody can dispute the fact Tamils led the political struggle in the country.

He was speaking yesterday in the 19th National Conference of SLMC, held in Amparai. He told so in the presence of President Maithripala Sirisena, Prime MInister Ranil Wickremasinghe and Minister Raub Hakeem.

Tamil People are living in majority in North and East and for that reson, North and East should be viewed differently. In the past agreements with Dudley, Bandaranayake , Chandrika and in the Indo – Lanka agreement important matters were included. We talked with Ashrof and reached agreement for power units in North and East. Minister Hakeem said that Muslims and the Sinhalese of the border villages were affect due to terrorism. This cannot be refuted. Still for all, no one can also refute that the Tamils led the political struggles in this country. Among all their woes and tribulations, they have continued their struggle from two to three years after independence to date.

We have abandoned separate Tamil Eelam demand. The solution should be acceptable to all. we will give full cooperation for that, he said.
