We demand Self Determination : CM, C.V.Wigneswaran.

We are demanding Self Determination because we have learnt that the North and South cannot operate in agreement. The  grabbing of powers of PC by the Centre is like some stranger coming into your bed room and claiming rights to sleep there, said the CM,NPC, C.V.Wigneswaran.

The Mulaitheevu coordinating committee meeting was held in the auditorium of the Karaithuraipattu Divisional Secretariat yesterday. Speaking there under the theme of Forest Destruction he said that complaints are being received that the environment being heavily affected by deforestation for resettlement and development. Action should be taken to stop all deforestation with or without the knowledge of the officers concerned.

A group of officers should be appointed to examine and revalidate any permits that had been already issued and issue new permits for resettlement and other development activities.

We cannot allow some of our officers trying to grab our powers and hand over them to the centre. As we cannot be operating in agreement, for our lands to be grabbed and our forests and wild life the destructed, we are demanding Self Determination.

If the Government accepts Self Determination, it will have to hand over many of its powers  to the Provinces. I am explaining this to the UN officials meeting me, he said.
